2017 Hiking Guide

ROUND TRIP: 4.2 Miles ELEVATION GAIN: 1480 ft. HIKING SEASON: Summer NOTES: Bring a pastry from the Mazama Store and treat yourself at the summit. DRIVING DIRECTIONS: The easiest approach is to drive 1.8 miles south from the Mazama Store to a left turn onto the Goat Peak Road (dirt/rough) and another 2 miles to a distinct left turn where you will see a sign for the Goat Peak Lookout nailed to a tree. Another five miles will bring you to a right hand turn and yet another rough dirt road that dead ends after another mile at the Goat Peak parking area. The trailhead begins in the trees behind the USFS information kiosk. PARKING PASS: Northwest Forest Pass OVERVIEW The Goat Peak Lookout is a challenging 4.2 mile hike (round trip) to the USFS lookout atop one of the hallmark topographical features of the Upper Methow. DESCRIPTION Hike uphill through forest and meadows until the trail begins to zig-zag through steeper terrain. After a sharp uphill passage break out into open ridge line with alpine meadows and a view of the lookout in the distance. The lookout is manned on a “need basis” these days but if unoccupied you can still enjoy an amazing 360 degree view of mountains that reach all the way into Canada and as far south as Mount Rainer, making the 1480’ elevation gain completely worth it! 11 GOAT PEAK LOOKOUT [ MAZAMA, WASHINGTON ]
