DRIVING DIRECTIONS: Head west of Pateros on US 153 for 2 miles and look for Alta State Park Road of the south side of the road and follow signs to the park entrance. PARKING PASS: Discover Pass OVERVIEW Few state parks have had to endure calamities as devastating as the Carlton Complex fires that swept through the Alta Lake area in 2014. Yet this 174-acre gem has rebounded with an indomitable spirit and is once again a popular destination for vacationing families as well as golfers, boaters and hikers all of whom come to absorb its friendly social ambiance and surrounding scenery. DESCRIPTION Repaired by a volunteer crew from the Washington Trails Association (WTA) in 2016, 2 miles of easy hiking on well established trails are found within the park boundaries or, for a more rigorous challenge, follow the moderate to steep trail that winds its way up Billy Goat Mountain on the western boundary of the park (785’ elevation gain).
